My old grandad a sailor of many years used to say a saying that went like this.

"We went ashore for a drink and a laugh, and ended up drinking from the Furry cup"

Any ideas ?

Not always. Sometimes these old sailors used the 'sucking on the straw' method, so I wouldn't make a full assumption on who he did it with.
