I've just read The Rosary Girls by Richard Montanari..more gore than you could shake a stick at .His other one was good too The Skin Girls .
Have a look at http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/
Under mystery and thrillers .One of the best websites for all the latest fiction .Click on something you might like and you get all the authors books and a brief synopsis .I use it all the time to feed my penchant for blood and guts :))
I am reading Cody Macfadyen's The Face of Death at the moment. It is a sequel but they don't need to be read in order. Its very good, has some gore and definately plays with your mind
LeMarchand, I looked up some reviews of 'Birdman' and they've convinced me to place an order with Amazon, along with 'The Treatment' by the same author.
I have to say mcraig, 'Birdman' appears to fit the description of just what you are looking for. I've been sitting on an Amazon gift voucher for a couple of months and, thanks to your thread and LeMarchand's recommendation, I have some new reading material to look forward to!
Anything by Jim Kelly. The stories are set in the Fens and usually centre around a years old corpse being discovered, which leads to people trying to cover up old secrets and the detective (a local reporter with a penchant for keeping pasties in his coat pocket) sets out to solve the mystery. There's usually at least one more gruesome corpse found at some point in the story, and the stories are all really well 'twisted' at the end.
