Hi, I'm thinking of visiting Egypt for a holiday this year. Can anyone suggest any good, tourist-friendly destinations I could visit?

I think it depends what you want to do - sunbathing or culture. FThe sunbathing seems to be Hurghada etc on rd sea coast, the pyramids and what not along the Nile, notably Alexandria, Cairo and Luxor. I have been using the Lonely planet guide to plot my visit

Thanks simms thats very helpful. I was thinking of going more for the culture side of the holiday but my girlfriend wants to go for the sunbathing. Do you know of Sharm El Sheikh by any chance? It's on the coast by the Red Sea. Would it be very difficult traveling from the coast to Cairo?

Hi,

I've been to egypt a couple of times and my favourite Red Sea resort is Dahab. Its about an hour from Sharm El Sheikh but alot smaller, very friendly and laid back. There is some great diving and its near to some sights like St. Catherines Monastery. Whilst in Dahab I took a night bus (about 7 hrs) to Cairo and spent a couple of days there. Buses go a few times a day from Dahab and Sharm. They are fairly comfy and air conditioned but you should pre book to guarantee a place. Like simms I used the lonely planet guide.

Hope this helps.
