Does there come a time when you NEED to make a decision about who moves closer? When is the right time to make the move?

Hi Haysi
I couldnt cope with a long distance relationship, Im way too impatient
Works for some folk tho and I suppose the absence makes the heart grow fonder but it would drive me mental lol
Hi, haysi! :)

My boyfriend and I have been in a long distance relationship for almost eight years now and it works really well for us. To tell the truth, it was probably harder a few years ago when we were younger, as we were both a bit jealous and insecure, but now that we're older (and realise we can trust one another) it's fine.

I'm very independant, so I probably find it a bit easier than he does, but we spend almost every weekend together and are together non-stop from the Friday evening until the Monday morning. If we lived together we'd only see each other on week day evenings and even then I imagine we'd still have our own social lives. I love the way it is at the moment as I get to do my own thing during the week.

We speak at least three times a day on the phone, too.

We have discussed buying somewhere and living together and we've compromised (well, I've begged) that he will more than likely move down here. There are more prospects career-wise for him, although it's far more expensive, and I know that I would be desperately unhappy if I was to move away from my family.

Eight years sounds a long time, and it is, obviously, but I'm only 23 so I'm more than happy to not rush it when I have my whole life ahead of me. :)

LOL weeal, I know where you are coming from

Whiskeysherri, crikey 8 years, that is a long time, but congrats to you as it is working.

Well, I suppose, nothing ventured, nothing gained, the subject has come up recently so need to have a proper think about it.

I know a couple that have been together for 10+ years.
They live about 100 miles apart.

For me that would be way too long and too far.
My husband is abroad a lot, which makes us also kind of lead a long distance relationship for 3-4 months at a time, but there is always an end in sight.
Without that I don't think I could do it!
Someone I work with is in a long-distance relationship. She is in RSA and he's in England. Its only been going on a few months and yes, the advent of technology such as Skype and MSN messenger makes it easier but I do see the frustration on both sides when he talks about it.

How well you cope depends on your personality, some people lack the patience or independence.
whenever your ready to get closer you will get closer.
my flatmates gf is in sweeden and they have been together for about 4 years. i think he is thinking of moving there at some point in the not to dim and distant future.
i have been with my gf in london (im in birmingham) for about 8 months and its working out fine for us for now (appart from the cost of petrol and bloody train lines being closed for maintinence).
My hubby is ex army, I never lived in his barracks, so for years it was long distance! We live together now and although it was worth it, I hated the distance! We got through it, but it was hard!

Guess you can't help who you fall in love with!
If you're a couple of hours travel time apart i'd have hope for the relationship any more than that and i'd give up, don't really see much point in only seeing each other once a month or so.
