by passive transport do you mean diffusion?
dffusion is movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of lower concentration across a partially permeable membrane down a concentration gradient
active transport if movement of particles against a concentation gradient from a lower concetration to a higher contration. ATP is needed to counteract the particles moving down a concentration gradient
