Here is the news.
In a move that has been expected for some time, the Ordnance Survey announced today the formal abolition of latitude and longitude for all UK locations.
Instead, each location will be given an MFB rating. The new MFB (Miles From Brighton) scale was welcomed, particularly by school children, and by people in Brighton.
Greenwich, as the home of Zero Degrees, the Greenwich Meridian, has been replaced by Brighton, which is the home of Zero MFB.
So, for instance:
Ditchling has a ranking of 9 MFB.
Eastbourne has a ranking of 22 MFB.
London has a ranking of 53 MFB.
For all locations Norh of London, a different scale will apply. This is the SUNS (Somewhere Up Near Scotland) scale.
All locations qualifying for a SUNS ranking will be treated equally.
