Mercury was one of the best rock stars ever, George Michael hasn't managed a significant hit single in about 5 years, Elton John has been utterly irrelevant since the mid 70's, Liberace was always cretinous, Jimmy Somerville is responsible for some great pop moments, but nowhere near as good as the also gay Pet Shop Boys, and Erasure were better too and Will Young is a corporate puppet who sold his soul for a few bucks and managed to remove any semblance of slease from 'Light My Fire', which, until I heard it I would have thought impossible. Steven Gately is gay and he's utterly appalling. Rob Halford from Judas Priest is considered by some one of the greatest metal vocalists (although not by me). Boy George is much better at interviews than he is at being a musician. Rusty Springboard had one of the classic 60's voices. Is it me or does a singer's sexuality have naff all to do with whether they're a good pop star?
