I think this may be a silly question but I need to ask it.
My partner live 100 miles away from each other. We were hoping to get married this year once my house sold. Well the house is still up for sale and there is no sign of it selling. I currently get working and child tax credit, if we still live apart and get married will I lose my tax credits. I ask this because we cannot afford to pay for both houses without my caredits.
What tax credits you receive as a married couple depend on your joint income - however if you are not living together this could be different. Give them a call and ask them to give you an estimate on the benefits you would receive. Bear in mind that they often get it wrong though!!! Also the credits system run from the previous April - so that might give you more time to sell whilst your credits remain the same. Trouble is that the tax credit system is it's own entity!!!!
