witness statement

i have been charged with an offence based on what one person said i did the police have told me that someone said i did something which i did not do but they feel that persons word is enough to send me to trial. can the police charge you on the say so of one person who has not even made a witness statement and just told the police i did something wrong. also does the witness have to turn up in court or not?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Ethel is right ,,,,"but is it ethical for PLAIN CLOTHES police officers to act like normal fare paying punters ?? !! - there are no rules. or code of ettiquette ...... in there "division" ---- ( if you plead guilty , then "writtem evidence " only will be enough for prosecution .... if you PLEAD NOT GUILTY at the 1st hearing , they will arrange another , HEARING where , the witness , has to TURN UP and give - VERBAL EVIDENCE ...... witnesses dont like this generally cos , well who wants to hang around a Magistrates court ,,,,, unless it goes to CROWN COURT , sometimes when they have newly designated judges ,,,,,, some cases are refered to Crown Court , even if they are not seriou offences .. to give NEW JUDGES , some "match practice " .... and i will go to heaven via SOUTHALL , where 64 virgins will be waiting for me ... ten "the non beliver " !!!
