We stayed in De Roode Leeuw (The Red Lion) in March and it is decent enough :
Situated 100 metres from Amsterdams Dam Square and within 500 metres of the Royal Palace this small, modern hotel is housed in a 1911 building in a lively shopping and business district.
Although central was adequately double-glazed to keep the noise out. Decent sized room, which was kept clean every day. Would recommend to anyone looking for somewhere central to base themselves. Only down sides were the one night we ate in the hotel restaurant - it was expensive (and not up to much) & the 20 extra Euros "tourist tax" we got charged on checking out
