Hi,

Just wanted to tell someone (!!) that I found out last friday that we are expecting!!

I am excited and pleased (we've been trying a while), but can't help reigning myself and not allowing myself to get too excited - anyone else felt that?
I'm worried I'm going to miss out on the excitement of the first 3 months as we're still not in the safe part of pregnancy. Anyone else had the feeling of being pulled in 2 directions by your emotions?

Hopefully going to the docs on Friday, so will have more idea of what to expect. It's our first!

congratulations lublu
Aww congratulations! I know exactly how you feel, with my second I found out at 5 weeks and was determined not to tell friends til 12 weeks, I managed to keep quiet for about a week! lol If you want to keep it to yurselves til 12 weeks, youre not missing out on anything. You and babys dad can still share your excitement together and theres plenty of time left after to share the excitement with everyone else! 28 weeks is a long time to share it all when youre pregnant! lol

Then of course theres the excitement of baby arriving, showing baby off, baby growing (rapidly!) baby going to school, growing up, getting married, giving you grand kids lol
ooooooooooooooh, how exciting! I remember telling my friends and family. it's hard to keep such big news to yourselves.

enjoy it all, it's a bizarre and wonderful experience x

Thanks Psychick!
We had always said that we would keep it a total secret until 12 weeks. However (!), we saw immediate familt at the weekend for a family celebration and did say something. I now think that they are more excited than us!!

No-one else will know til we've had the 12 week scan ( I assume that is when it will be?!) and we know all is ok.
Hoping to see the doctor the end of the week...i want some information about what to expect in terms of antenatel care, scans etc!!
Well done - my first was a drunken mistake (with husband!) and my second was... a drunken mistake (with same husband).. Enjoy.. I loved being pregnant and used to sit on the couch watching my tummy and guessing which part of the baby was poking out.. Heel, elbow, hand.. Oh No - getting broody...
I doubt you will get much info from the doctor, you will be given a booking in appointment with your midwife soon and she will be the best person to ask about anything and everything, and yes, the first scan is normally at 12 weeks.

In the meantime of course, you have us to help with that list of questions! lol

now the fun starts hun. Its a rollercoaster of emotions but there are lots of lovely people on here to answer any questions you have.

also if you want to join another group too I can recommend the ivillage forums and messageboards, this is the mums due March 2009 but i dont know when youre due. http://messageboards.ivillage.co.uk/iv-ukpbmar 2009
Fab news! congratulations :-)

We were the same. Found out at 4 weeks + 3 days and told our parents the same week. We managed (don't ask me how) to keep it from friends until after the 12 week scan. Our scan was at 13 weeks too so that was very frustrating having to wait that extra week!

I phones the surgery a couple of days after we found out just to see what the next stage would be and they gave me a number to call the midwife. She phoned me up for a general chat, explained what not to eat etc but it was not until 10 weeks that I got to see her. It feels weird as you start to convince yourself that you've made the whole thing up!!! well I did anyway!!! I even did a pregnantcy test at 10 weeks just to make sure I was still pregnant! did 6 in total!

Around a week or so before my midwife appointment I received some forms to fill in which the midwife then went through in depth when she was here. Was given loads of leaflets etc but she didn't actually check that I was pregnant i.e. no urine test or a feel of my belly! that again I found very strange.

It wasn't until the scan (after seeing our tiny baby) that I started to really believe that we actually were pregnant!!! We let everyone know and they were all so excited for us. We then headed off to mothercare, babies r us and all the maternity sections just because we could!!! because the secret was out!!!

I'm now 28 weeks and have an obvious pregnant belly so I'm excited about that as it seemed to take forever to go from fatty (eaten too many pies look) to obviously pregnant!

Anyway as others have said, we're all here if you have any questions in the meantime or just need to chat!

Congrats again! hope you're feelin ok and not too sick/tired.
How fab LuBlu, such a good feeling. As you say, you want to enjoy it but are worried. This is how I felt, but in the end, I decided (what the hell) and gave in to my excitement!

I was lucky not to have miscarried, and know a few mothers to be that have and fear being excited so I understand why other do hold back!

Go with the flow and enjoy I say x x x
Hi LuBlu
I know exactly how you feel. I found out in May at about 4 1/2 weeks and was secretly thrilled but didn't dare let myself get too excited (especially as I had a miscarriage in Feb). Went for my dating scan on Friday and now I'm 12 weeks have spread the news and feel so excited now!! Was quite weird telling people though - it had been mine and my other halfs secrect for so long!
Try not to worry, what will be will be. I worried with the previous pregnancy and when i did miscarry I was a bit gutted that i hadn't enoyed my 'pregnant' time more.
congratulations LuBlu
being pregnant is the best. i've done it twice and loved every minute of it
your heart melts when you first see the baby on the screen then the butterflies kick in around 18 weeks (with your first....or so they say). thats the baby kicking. you may experience hiccups too and so much more
i really hope you enjoy it. :-)
all the best
