New car from dealer, his maths are wrong - is it binding ?

Would really appreciate some advice before I go to the dealer tomorrow to sort this out.

Agreed a price on a new, unregistered car last week, went home to think about it, then confirmed I wanted it by phone. Paid a deposit by credit card to secure it (it was overseas at the time but is now at the dealers and registered). I've signed nothing and only today have received the agreement. There's a simple maths error which, when followed thru, means I owe �1400 less than we agreed. There's no finance involved.

Once I point the error out, is that binding, will I get it cheaper ?

Of all the dealers i have worked for i have never seen an error in your favour, they always manage to make errors in there favour, but have always corrected them when they have been pionted out, they might try to send you a bill later which will only cause stress

interesting one, that,
i would be inclined not to point it out.
But put the surplus �1400 inthe bank to gain a bit of interest,
then you have it ready if they do bill you later.

The figures are pretty much right but they've added �200 to a sub total (which is later deducted cos it's reg fees and tax and I was told they were included)and made it �1400 more. If I agree the individual figures and get him to add it all up again tomorrow, it will be �1400 less. Can't see how they can change the individual figures, just the calculation (which would go in my favour). There's nothing in writing to say what I originally agreed to pay.

logic, as it stands the outstanding balance is �400 more than it should be. Was adding the sums up to see where it came from when I realised they'd made a mess of the calculation !

you dont honestly think that it will be the same figure when you go back,it will be checked over by the manager before its all done.

NORMANTHEDOG, the figures themselves do look about right so if the manager tots it all up, he'll get the same total as me. ;o)
In fact, just looked at it again, increased the size and someone's signed in the Manager's signature box !

The figures are totalled incorrectly to X

If you actually add up the figures in the list it comes to Y, which is �1400 pounds less.

Surely if you point it out they will say you agreed to pay X, and if you don't point it out you pay X.

You can't win.

Well, been to dealers. Turns out they hadn't included the VAT figure on the agreement (they don't have to apparently) but it HAD been included in the calculation. Still got a good buy, and had a chance to see the car before I pick it up next week. Nice !
