I have a 1996 Ford Escort 1800 DT and despite having removed the alternator, it will not drop, as it is wedged by the chassis, the pulley wheel and the pas hose. How do I remove it? Please help.

I can't remember what they're like on that car.  Sometimes it's necessary to remove it from below, or remove the bolts from the engine mounting (cambelt end) and jack the engine up a little so you can move the engine enough to get the alternator out.
