cucumber damage

something has chewed the leaves off and damaged the stem of my cucumber plants and i am wondering if they will still produce cucumbers

Hi Sandlin,

Slugs or snails, they love cucumbers. If the plant is still growing you will be O.K. if not then ???

Protect your plants with either a ring of sharp sand or slug pellets or even a saucer of beer dug into the ground, that way they die happy!!!

Cucumbers are quite prone to stem rot at the base. This is often the result of incorrect watering technique. You need to ensure the soil is wetted away from the stem, not right up to it - a bit tricky but can be done. Otherwise they are fairly easy to grow.
