Maybe a young flycatcher?
Had a look in my bird book today, may have been as above a spotted flycatcher, they are like sparrows with spots (obviously!) but pale chest feathers, not that common I don't think.

I've only just started watching birds from my small terraced house - a holiday in Shropshire opened my eyes! I'm pleased to know that the bird was a spotted flycatcher - a change from my starlings (15 this evening!) and sparrows.

Thank you so much for your help.

How lovely! My nearest neighbours (a mile away) have them nesting at their place, but they've never nested on my farm, unfortunately.
