non drowsy hayfever relief vs. the other sort
6 Answers
im taking the non drowsy loratadine stuff at the mo, in conjuction with eyedrops. thankfully my eyes arent too bad, but my sneezing, bloked nose, dry mouth, itchy palate is really making me feel cr*p. also, i have a history of sleep problems, so this is just making things so much worse, i sometimes wonder if its even worth going to bed. anyway, what i want to know is, is the hayfever stuff that might make you drowsy very effective compared to loratadine, and if yes, what is the active, sleep inducing and hayfever squashing ingredient that i need to watch out for?

I'm on phenergan at the minute, which are drowsy (often also used for insomnia or to sedate people before operations) and although i take them at night, I'm permanently tired in the morning after a full nights sleep!
I am a bad sleeper though so at least I'm getting more sleep, I just don't wake up feeling refreshed!

My son suffers badly from hayfever and has tried all of the above remedies, some with more success than others. He has to take a non-drowsy, as he drives and due to the nature of his job, but we've found that if he takes Benadryl Plus (allergy & congestion relief - pharmacy sales only, so go to the chemist for these) in the morning and loratadine at night, they work wonderfully and he gets a good night's sleep as he's not all bunged up! Hope this helps. K
