Can you increase your payment so that you gradually catch up? Most lenders will accomodate this when some payments fall behind.

Not sure about auto payments but i had to do this with my gas bill as i hadnt given a reading in 18mnths and owed them �400. My own fault, but i didnt realise it had been that long. They quoted a new amount for me but i haggled them down to a more realistic amount, so be confident in negotiating something you can realistically afford otherwise you will make matters worse if you agree to an amount you know you cant sustain.
