hi guys,
right, im 27 and live in birmingham,
ive been in a few jobs, but got bored of those and went to college at 24y.o to do what id wanted to do for a while,
am now a gym instructor, i dont have many qualifications other than my fitness stuff, left school at 16 into a job, yada-yada etc.

im not a moron and i try and learn new things all the time, just wish id tried harder at school, but hey, its the way it is, but for what its worth, i consider myself fairly intelligent.

i enjoy my job at the moment but feel i need a new challenge, and a few times in the last few years or so ive contemplated joining the police force at the ground floor, ive had the forms and filled them in only to talk myself out of it.

so my questions for you guys are,

what sort of person does it take to go for this kind of job ?

i mean in terms of personality wise, i.e who you are ?
not the things you learn, more in terms of what it takes to go for it to start with ??

as i assume it takes a certain type of person..

before with jobs, ive felt im going nowhere, my fitness job gives me challenges, i train hard and work hard but without sounding cliche , feel i have a calling somewhere else.

any help /advice /experiences would be gratefully recieved and read with great interest.

thanks in advance and best regards,
hope to speak to some of you soon .

cheers ;)

sir prize, i don't watch television...i'll leave that to the bored suburbanites.
Gonzo - - - I did not spell it wrong - I typed GRATE and MEANT GRATE
That's right, you just act hard on websites. Because you are just that brave.

Cheerio!
i don't call myself anything pauli..i let sir prize and his cronies do that! :)
GRATE for you!
gonzo - - - - GRATE as in grinding teeth in despair at moronic snivelling little cretins like you. By the way - there is also an 'r' in surprise.
Lol! Don't take any notice pianoman.

if you can take to the life, being a police officer is still a decent career. SOMEone's got to do it, and it's not the fault of the officers that they can't get on with their work in the way we'd all like them to. Best of luck hun, because I have two friends in the Met, and they love it. x
there is also an " r" in Old @rsehole....of which you are a prime example.
by the way...you're just so easy to wind up...keep on policing the internet old man. :)
gonzo the hurdy-gurdy man
what age are you sir prize?.....judging by your insults...i'd say 135....are you wearing a stovepipe hat?...lol!
Well I'm sure pianoman1appreciates you all having a cat fight on his thread. Nice one!
Hi Pianoman, I know a lot of Officers, some love it some regret joining. It does take a certain type of person but only you will know if it's for you. Cumbrianlad was very accuate, you need to be flexible and be able to take a load of crap and abuse from colleagues as well as the public. Not really a job to enter in to unless you really want it.
Good luck and let us know what you decide.
Best wishes with whatever career you choose.

As you can see from the answers given - some people are morons. Such is life.

may I also remind you of another old adage that a copper's only friends are other coppers - remember that all the people you currently know (family included) are not going to be law abiding all of the time and you would be expected in this type of job to still prevent crime or at the very least grass them up. if you didn't and were found out, that would be your job (and potentially a way of life the longer you serve) down the swanny. as a psychiatric nurse i get a lot of abuse from patients at times and violence too - but as a copper, i think this would be a lot worse - hence the rhino skin being probably the most important part of the job. there is also a considerable amount of training to undergo and committment required of you if you decided to take the job - and it probably wouldn't turn out like hot fuzz (shame!)my advice would be to maybe volunteer as a special to see if you could really stick at it and experience as much of the job before you commit yourself fully. good luck!
