For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I would always keep ivy trimmed back, don't let it start to get a hold on your roof tiles, it can creep under them and lift them, I have seen ivy growing right through old walls. It's a bit of a pain to trim it regularly, but better than having to pull it off the tiles and leave all the fibrous strands behind.
