I have NEVER smoked, but back in the 1970's the chancellor increased the price of a packet of 20 to the princely sum of 50p, when my mother heard this she said to my father, thats it Im giving up and from that day until 2006 when she passed away she never ever smoked again. There was nothing to help her like there is today (things like nicotine patched etc) it was just sheer will power.
I think she did really well considering my father carried on smoking his cigars.
