Why so much?

Why are people who work in the City paid so much? Some of them are glorified barrow boys and there are loads of other people who do more "valuable" jobs for society. Not sure if this is the right category for this question - it doesn't seem to fit anywhere.

I suppose you have to work with money to make real money. City jobs might be financially rewarding but do take up a large chunk of these people's lives, a typical working day is 7am to 7pm, its all about what you want out of life. Each to their own hey?
