Please help me. I heard this on the TV ages ago and its driving me mad. The song goes something like. I am an ocean wave my love crashing on the shore, I am a galley slave my love. Thought it might have been Enya but no one seems to know what i am looking for.

I think the artist you are thinking of was 'All About Eve' they were quite well known in the 80's.  Don't know the name of the song tho, sorry.

Thier most famous song was called Marthas Harbour I think. I can't really remember how it went or even the words but perhaps it would be a good starting point.

It is indeed Marthas Harbour by All About Eve the song is on the album titled All About Eve with many other great songs. They famously apeared on Top Of The Tops to sing it during a live mime when the song didnt come through the minitors but did on the tv leaving them shaking their heads and shrugging shoulders at each other. One of my fav bands, I saw them about 30 times and was in one of the videos, I am in corespondance with Julianne the singer occasionally

Oh, I remember the 'Martha's Harbour' incident on TOTP ! I still have it on video somewhere.

I believe TOTP felt obliged to ask them back the following week, whereby All About eve insisted on doing live vocals this time!
