Could this be "They might be giants" with the 1990 hit "A little birdhouse in your soul?"  The lyrics went something like, "Not to put too fine a point on it, Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet...  ... a little birdhouse in your soul..."
From the lyric, it certainly sounds like TMBG, but I'm pretty sure they were American. The physical description sounds a lot like Owen Paul who sang "You're My Favourite Waste of Time" in about 1986, but not sure if the song contains that lyric.
I think TMBG were Canadian, but I can't seem to find out for sure...

Is There Something Wrong And You Can't Put Your Finger On It,
Right Then, Roll To Me

Sounds like "Roll to Me" by Del Amitri, they were a Scottish group.
