floppy disks have a little locked/unlocked switch to click on them. make sure the padlock sign is "open"
1) may be a dodgy loose cable to the drive (unlikely)
2) how old are the disks?
3) ive had this problem before, open the metal flap on the disks and give them a good blow, then try again
sounds like a media error/descrepancy with the actual disk
Maybe the disk has never been formatted? Seems possible, if it has no identifying marks.
you could try a file recovery programme, assuming there is some data on the disc.If you google free recovery software there are several programmes to try.
Depends how old the disks are. Some earlier disks will not work on modern PCs due to different standards.
