Why is it that almost all old people over the UK are up at 5am, making tea and going to the local shop to buy a newspaper?

Cos we are too old to go out pubbing and clubbing the night before.

You are right though. As a postman, when we did two deliveries years back, you could always guarantee the old ones would be up and about and not in bed if you had anything to sign or give them.

On a personal level, (and I am oldish) I am so used to getting up early, for me a lie in is until 7.

cos you tend to sleep less when your older and go to bed earlier and unlike the lazy dole scroungeing kids of today not all of them but some old people had worth ethic and got up early to do an honest days graft

I was a lazy sod in my yoof and could sleep from Friday (end of weeks work) to Monday morn and still be late for work!

Now in my 'twighlight' years am in bed at 2am and up at 7. Having had snoozes throughout the day.

Sleeping gets shorter as life is shortening and I want to savor each day.......when ur dead you can sleep 4ever!

Well..this old gal isn't up at 5am No way. I've done my share of earlies thank you !...I have an old man to make the tea and fetch the papers :))

It is true that you need less sleep as you get older, but it is also great especially when the mornings are light to feel that you are the only person on the planet.
You soon however come back to reality, as you realise that
you are actually part of a world, run in the main by scumbags,for the benefit of lots of other scumbags

Probably because the new Criminal Record Bureau vetting process means that all newsagents have to have a CRB certificate to employ children under the age of 16 as paper boys/girls so they will stop delivering papers to anybody, and pensioners will have to hobble down to the newsagents on their zimmer frames to get a paper in future.
