Flow Straighteners on Bathroom Basin Taps

Hi helpful folk !

Does anyone know how to remove the plastic flow straighteners on bathroom basin taps ? They are little plastic inserts that sit inside the tap spout and seem to ensure that the water comes out in a neat jet. Trouble is, on my taps they are rather dirty, grungy and in dire need of a good scrub. I can't work out how to remove them - is it a simple matter of just putting a hook (say a plastic crochet hook) in through the central hole and gently pulling them out ?

Sometimes they unscrew (mine do).
If troublesome to remove, you could try paint them with limescale remover in situ - limescale gunk is often the problem with them. Might save one breaking completely.

Thanks B/mate... what do you grip on in order to unscrew them ? ( they appear to be flush, with the end of the spout).

Try a pair of tweezers or pointed nose pliers and common sense.
