I have a gap between two teeth. Every now and then I have a really strong metallic taste. When I swallow I get a burning sensation in my throat. Am I being paranoid, or do you think mercury is leaking out and I am ingesting it? If so, is it going to do me any harm? In that case, what can I do about it? I have mentioned it on several occasions to my dentist with no result.

You could ask your dentist for a blood test to determine the levels of mercury reactive lymphocytes in your body if you are worried oldmegan. May I suggest in future when your amalgam fillings need replacing ask for mercury and metal free, that's what I intend doing after everything I have read recently, it is very worrying.
oldmegan. I to had that same mettalic taste a few years ago and went to my dentist. He did in fact remove those
amalgam fillings and replaced them with the newer white ones. I have not had it since.
Moonshadow, which journals, research papers, randomised controlled trials, government white papers, nice or sign guidlines, department of health documents have you read that lead you to believe 'mercury' fillings have a detrimental/adverse effect on health as compared with alternative dental restorative materials? Also are you 100% positve that the theoretical/hypothetical/unproven toxic effects of 'mercury' fillings are greater than the adverse 'actual'/'proven'/theoretical risks of alternative restorative materials.
