So Lets Shaft Our Farmers.....

Hi,
My US boyfriend has been living & working here in the UK for his US company for 2.5 yrs on a valid work permit. Yesterday his company reorganised and as of the end of the month his role here will not exist. They've offered him a role in head office in the US but we don't really want to move there due to e.g. my Dad needing care and other reasons. We'd like to keep him here in the UK such that he can get another job here.
Where do we go to for advice on his residential status here?
Presumably his work permit "finishes" when his role does. Does he have to leave the country immediately or does he have a grace period?

Vaguely remember though not 100%, if he left the country to , say, visit the US when the job ends, then came back to UK he would at least get 3 more months here; a bit more time to job-hunt. I know it is not a cheap option and may not be ideal. Perhaps a 'trip' to Europe for the weekend would be enough to get the stamp on your passport.
