My friend, who training to go into the RAF, said that, a year ago, for a training exercise he and his friend were asked to fly to Iraq (into "friendly airspace"). Whilst there his friend was shot down and he had to fly around providing cover while a team went to get his friend, who is now crippled for life apparently.
Now, considering my friend only recently turned 17 can there be any truth to this what so ever? Or is it, as I said at the time, a load of BS?

Exactly what I thought but the other people listening to the story seemed convinced that they'd send two 16 years olds into Iraq for training as long as it "friendly airspace".
Not helped by the fact someone else I know is going to Iraq for training, but she's going into communications and not flying around...

>he and his friend were asked to fly to Iraq
Do you really think that they are going to let a person that age fly anywhere on their own, let alone into Iraq !
I would imagine someone in the RAF needs to be in their mid 20s before being allowed to fly solo, particularly in a dangerous place like Iraq.

hi im currently in the RAF and just back from OOA. Its a load of, well you know what. You cant join the RAF til 17. Then basic training around 8 weeks followed by trade trainning. Pilot fully trainned and allowed to fly in the gulf solo even if he joined on his 17th bithday would be 19 plus and ive never seen one younger than 22 in the 23 years ive been in. Think someone needs to grow up.
