does anyone know where we can get really cheap train tickets from?

If you take your time on the virgin site you can usually get a good deal. I just did a search using your dates and found fare for �20.50 each way. This is if you avoid rush hour times.

Try looking at the megatrain site, my son used it to go to Manchester and it was megacheap.

you could always try what I saw on the train this morning - a guy got on at Rugby & sat next to me, when the train manager arrived he showed a blank pass and said "staff".
The train manager went on her way - really, I'm not joking. I'm thinking the guy might have been a time-lord, but It's amazing what some can get away with, with the right level of confidence.
