i have had a mirena fitted for endometriosis for almost a year. I thought it stopped your period but i still have one...at least every month though often every two weeks ...although it is MUCH MUCH lighter and less painful that it used to be.

My periods didnt stop straight away and I think took about 18 months. I am on my second coil now and wouldn't be without it. Still do get periods but not regularly and extremely light when it does happen.
I don't have endo though, just very heavy periods -menorrhagia - this was my last resort before hysterectomy.

hi evedawn,i had a mirena coil fitted obviously for contraceptive purposes but also because i had really heavy and painful periods. It didnt work though and i had even heavier and more painful periods approx every 3 weeks,gp said it would settle but it didnt and after about 2 years i had it removed. My friend has one and she has a very light period about every 3 months. hope this helps
hi i am on my second mirena coil now after having my son and both the first time around and this time i have had no problems whatsoever. i get a very light period maybe once every 2-3 mths and thats about it, the coil is not made to stop your periods but the hormones in it can make them stop or become very light, it varies from person to person. but my own experience is that its the best contraceptive i have ever used.
