cooking with gas or electric
Ive always been told that its cheaper and quicker to cook with gas rather than electric.is this still the case ?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I think the answer lies in the fact that gas is `instant on and instant off` whereas electricity takes longer to warm up and isn`t usually switched off before the cooking is finished. This usually results in electric cookers being `on` for much longer than necessary, resulting in higher costs and under-utilised energy.

Agreed............the problem always was with the inefficiency of the electric hob, but I still find that even with a fan-assisted oven a lot of energy is wasted by not switching off early enough. I usually have to leave the oven door ajar with the fan on and the heat turned right down or else the cabinet [ from a well-known store] starts to overheat. I suppose that may reduce the central heating bill.
