I only know a few lyrics, definitely sung by a male. Sort of a Northern Soul feel to it tempo wise.

There is also a bit that says, "said the snake"

Probably a dead obvious one,

Any help appreciated.

It's The Snake, by Oscar Brown Jr, but it was also covered by Johnny Rivers and Al Wilson. You should be able to Google for more info.

The Al Wilson version is the best known in my area, I have been playing that track at discos for absolutely years :-)
