Over three years ago I heard on the radio a programme on 'a-capella' music which included a recording of female voices which I seem to recall being described as Bulgarian open throat singers. I believe the songs (more like shouted chants) were at least inspired by, if not actually, Orthodox Christian religious music. The singing was almost certainly done by very young women (adolescent to early twenties) and the sound was to me absolutely stunning but I have never come across it again. Can anyone suggest any CD's I might look for ?

Among the best known, all highly recommended, are the LPs 'Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares' volumes I and II which first alerted the West to this incredible sound. Or anything by Trio Bulgarka/ Bulgarka Vocal Trio.
Trios Bulgares a few albums out, sang with Kate Bush too
