Tomatoes - novice gardener seeks help
4 Answers
Being a novice gardener, have planted some 'tumbling toms' in a trough to cover an ugly spot in the garden. Seems to be going well, little tomatoes have appeared, so have bought some fertiliser. However, I don't understand the instructions!
What exactly is a truss, and how do I know when 'every second one is established'?
Help please!

If the plant is supported by a staking system rather than being allowed to spread along the ground, it will be obvious as to which set is the second since it will, normally be higher up the plant. A little harder to determine if the plant is higgedly-piggedly along the garden floor...
I've planted 6 'higgedly-piggedlies' for the first time this year (Red Alert)and they are rampant - they've got trusses coming out of trusses!!! I keep looking at them thinking 'I really ought to do something' .......but I just water them and they keep coming , I've never seen so many toms........ or such messy plants!
