chest freezer

just purchased a chest freezer and got it to working temp. but when i open the lid there doesnt seem to be any resistance. as you get with a fridge door etc. do you think the seal is not working as it should. or is it just because it is new. as this is my first chest freezer i dont really know. any input would be appreciated.

Most bench freezers have two tension rods to take the main weight of the lid. They work like a spring. Without this it would be very difficult to lift the door up, especially for a petite Ms.

Bear in mind the orientation of normal freezers- the freezer is upright, so unless you had a seal wih resistance, the door would swing open.
However, with a chest freezer, it is lying parallel to the ground with the door opening upwards. Hence gravity keeps the door shut meaning ou dont need the same amount of resistance!

thanks for your answers.when i looked at it this morning you can see daylight between seal and top of freezer.been in contact with store who sold it and they have agreed to change it . as .we are not to happy that we can see daylight between seal.which would not keep freezing without it coming on more often
