Hi,
I reversed out of a gap on caught a blokes car As he was standing near his car he see it and asked for my details so i gave them to him but during the conversation i offered to pay for the damage as it looked so minor just a mud guard clip a tiny dent and some paint off my car that was on his which did wipe off my friend was with me too and she witnessed the whole thing..... I phoned him that evening and he had'nt even tried to t cut it out he said he wasnt fussed..... i said to get some quotes and i will foot the bill as it was only fair to do so.
Today 10 days later i have had voicemail left on my phone from his insurance company asking for me to contact them...... I have also read on web forums he cant really do anything about it if i refuse to contact my insurance company as it was in a car park or "Private land" is this true? What should step should i take next? I cant believe he has been an a***hole it would cost more than 200 to sort i dont see why i have to loose 9 years NCB over such a minor scrape! please Help

This is a standard condition on all policies that I have come across. He has done so and you have not.
You now face the prospect of a claim being made by his insurers either for reimbursement of any outlay they may have made, or a claim from the Third Party for the cost of repairs. If these should turn out to be more than you are prepared to pay yourself your insurers may decline liability because you did not promptly report the matter to them as required under your policy.
The status of the car park as private land may be true in that it may be privately owned. However, if the public has general access (e.g. a supermarket car park) then it comes under the definition of other public place for the purpose of Road Traffic laws.
Of course nobody can compel you to report the matter to your insurers (whether it took place on private land or elsewhere). However, in not doing so you run the risk of having to meet any liabilities yourself. Even if the incident took place where no motor insurance is needed (i.e. on private land) you are still liable for any damages.

he does not need for you to contact your insurance company,if he has you reg no,his insurance company will get all the details they need from the register, and they will just claim off your insurance company, supermarkets are not private property in that sense, there is nothing you can do about it now , he has contacted his insurance, you damaged his car and admitted it,and it will go down as a accident on your insurance, you wont lose 9 yrs ncb, only 2 yrs.
