Spatzl!?
6 Answers
What is it exactly? Or what is it like!?
My fella is in the kitchen, as he has decided each week to cook the menu GR does on the F word. Him and his mum are trying to do the spatzl to go with the stroganoff, but as none of us have ever heard of it before, its a bit difficult!
They have now given up and we are having spaghetti with it! But would like to know in the future!

They can be served up warm with butter, cheese or white sauce or fried then served up similarly. They are an Austrian version of spaghetti or noodles and are another form of basic carb - the Italians have their pasta, the Brits their tatties, the Indians their rice.
Here's an interesting recipe:-

You can buy Sptzle ready to use but I never found it here .We get it from germany but it's easy to make .
500 gs of flour, 5 eggs, 150-200 ml water,
salt, pepper pinch of nutmeg .
You really need what they call a Sptzleschaber which is a sort of small flat board with a sharp edge which you cut it with but a wide pallette knife or a wide sharp knife will do the trick .
Mix the flour, salt, pepper and nutmeg in a bowl
then beat the water and eggs together and add them gradually until you a get dough .Not sloppy but workable like pastry .
Cut the dough into very thin strips or little squares (whatever shape you like ) with the doings or a wide flat knife and chuck them into boiling salted water
When they float to the top fish
them out into a sieve and rinse under cold water .Then you can reheat them gently in a pan with butter.
