Machico, Madeira

Hi, my wife and I are going to Madeira in September. We will be staying at the White Water Hotel. Does anyone have knowledge of the Hotel or the area of Machico and things to do while in Madeira?

Things to do in Madeira include the levada walks (irrigation channels up in the hills), a cable car ride and a white-knuckle bobsleigh ride down a public road. If you're going on a package, ask your tour guide for events you can book.

PS avoid anyone who smiles at you in Funchal harbour - they just want to drag you into a timeshare presentation.

Dome good advice there but don't forget about the flower market which is well worth a visit as are the botanical gardens for the great views as well as the plants and birds there. the trip to the volcanic crater near the centre of the island is pretty good too possibly where they got the idea for the road sequences in The Italian Job pretty hairy in places with some spectacular scenery. Timeshare touts are about the town of Funchal as well as just in the ahrbour and they are real pests Just enjoy it's a lovely island
