Whilst on holiday...

sallys question below has got me thinking!

We are due togo on holiday for a week in September, and I'm unsure about my Cleo!

We have found a really good kennel in our area, that Ashke is happy in, and we will be asking our neighbour to come in and feed the cats twice a day.

Cleo will be 10 months old, and although I think she will be too young to go in the kennels, I also know she will really hate to be away from Ashke!

Is she just too young to be in kennels, or is it better to have both dogs in the kennels together?
(Cleo spends most of her day playing outside in the garden with Ashke, and as soon as we let her out the bedroom in the morning, she is bouncing around the back door to go out to see him!)

Just wondering what you lot think!?

I used to have 2 dogs which were very close and I kennelled them but in the same extra large kennel.

They loved being together and I felt less guilty knowing they had eachother.

I am such a big softie with dogs - does it show?!

Thats what I was thinking, having them in the same kennel together.

Cleo will drive Ashke mad! But I would rather have that then have them seperated.

I'm just worried that Cleo is too young to go into kennels?
She was born 9th December and would be going into the kennels 5th Sept?

I would ask the kennels' opinion about the age thing. My old dogs were a year apart and I am sure they went in when the youngest was about that age. Dont forget about coming into season if you have a bitch though!

If not, you know I would take them in!! lol

We had Ashke done a couple of months ago, as we didnt want to risk anything!

Mind you, having an American cocker spaniel x cavalier king charles spaniel (who actually seems half terrier) crossed with a Samoyed would give very interesting looking puppies! lol!

Otherwise, where abouts are you! Hehe!

How about some of the pet sitters that take dogs into their own home, they could both stop together then?

I think that is a better option, as they will still be taken walks etc.

Have a chat with the kennel owners. Kennels will take dogs of any age as long as their vaccinations have been done.

The kennels may be able to put them in the same run during the day and seperate them at night (or at some times during the day to give Ashke a bit of peace!). As long as you book well in advance the kennels will probably be quite flexible (they will need as much notice as possible though as they will be quite busy at that time of year).

Kennels often get dogs in that live together so they are well used to this sort of situation.

I once boarded a twelve week old Scottie with the owners elderly Westie, and it was fine, I just had to feed it more often and separated it from the old dog for feeding (and to give the old boy a break from the puppy wanting to play). After a feed I would put the pup in a play pen for a sleep and put it back in the kennel with the Westie later.
