Why do sandwhiches taste nicer when they are cut diagonally, as opposed to straight across the middle?

When you eat them - you invariably eat them from the corners. Corners can go to the back of your mouth if you eat to much so you subconciously eat a smaller bite so there's less in your mouth and more "air" to stimulate the taste buds.
If you eat a normal sandwich you eat into it, eating more with each bite, leaving less room for saliva and "air".
Or I could be talking rubbish - but that's my theory !!!
