Best Digital Camera?

What digital camera would you recommend for easy use & that doesn't eat up batteries please?

I think they all eat batteries. Make sure you buy one with rechargeable batteries. I have 3 sets. My camera is a Nikon coolpix and the batteries have a pretty good life. It takes a few recharges to get them going mind you.

We have an Olympus digital camera and it has a lithium battery that you take out to recharge and it does seem to last an awfully long time.
I love my gadgets and technology so fiddle about with things like these for hours and have only charged the battery twice. We've had it since just after Xmas & had loads of use out of it. My Mum & Step-Dad have a digi camera that uses normal batteries & they say that the batteries never seem to last long, but the camera does make this really cool 'click' sound when you take a pic!

Im with Wingnut, I have an olympus (mju 400...????) with a lithium battery which will take hundreds of pictures before needing to be recharged for about 2 hours

dont buy a fujifilm finepix s3000  as although the picture quality and ease of use is amazing i found i could only take about 20 or 30 pics with a regular battery and rechargables (even the high power ones) dont work at all, and it seems to be the only fujifilm that u cant buy a battery pack for as well!

I have a Panasonic and am well impressed with it. Well worth a look IMHO.

I bought a Fuji S7000 after reading Which report.  They particularly recommended it on its battery power retention.  It uses rechargeables as well as the ordinary AA sort in emergencies.  It also makes wicked video's - stack up on cards for your hols.

Try the sony cybershot p93, looks, feels and just is a very good camera.

twiglet4frog, I think you may have bought a faulty Fujifilm FinePix S3000 because although I have never tried ordinary batteries in it, my rechargeable batteries last for ages and they aren't high power ones (they're 900-whatever-it-is as opposed to the 2300-whatever-it-is you can buy now and which I'm thinking of investing in). You are correct too: it is very easy to use and the picture quality is brilliant. I also have to add that Fufifilm customer service is brilliant. I lost my driver when I had a new hard drive, downloaded one, couldn't get it working and every time I emailed them, they replied within 10 minutes until it was sorted out.

smudge, I have seen a site where you can just type in a camera name and it will give you reviews for it, but I can't remember what it's called now. I'll post again if it comes to mind!

regarding batteries: get yourself a set of rechargable batteries and fast charger, something like this:

ideally twice the number of batteries as the camera needs, so you've always got some spare charged batteries.

Every Digital camera "eat" batteries, the duration that the battery works is greatly depending upon your energy management skills. You need to learn to save the battery power,
For instance:
1. Turn off the LCD and use the viewfinder
2. Minimize photo previewing
3. Do not use continuous focus when not necessary
4. Do not press the shutter button half way down for no reason.
5. Carry another battery
