Will an author sign a book by post?

...If I send the book and an SAE, and a polite letter to their talent agency? He's an actor as well, so would I just be better off asking for a signed photograph?

Also this is my first endeavour of this sort... so if anyone's got any tips on how to write a letter expressing how I like absolutely everything he's done without sounding like a stalker I'd be grateful :)

I would find out who the person's agent is ( http://www.spotlight.com/ ) and write them a letter c/o that agent asking if you could send the book to them to be signed.

My son once did likewise with a football programme he had. He'd had it signed by the whole team, but not the (fairly high profile) manager, who wasn't there on the day. Said manager had his secretary write back to say yes, it was OK. My son send the programme and it came back signed a couple of weeks later.

It does depend on how high-profile the author is.

If anyone ever finds the tome i had published about careers in television, I will be delighted to sign it for you, and probablyu even collect and deliver it as well!

However, if my name was Stephen King, this offer would be regretfully withdrawn.

You could write to his publisher and send a book plate -

by registered post, and ask that it be posted back autographed.

Now I never even thought about sending a book plate. It would save lots in postage - what a great idea!! And funnily enough, Mr. Hughes, I'm going to college this autumn to study to become a TV director. I'm off to trawl Amazon.co.uk for your book now. You may get it in the post along with a polite request ;)

Was it called Television Industry : Understanding And Working Within The Television Industry? I've looked it up and it's currently classed as MISSING from Ferndown Library :L

But if you do get a copy, I will be delighted to autograph it for you - I only got one copy (!) (skinflint publisher) and i had to send that to tbe BBC when I was applying for a job on the Johnny Vaughan Show which obviously I didn;t get, because neither did he!

Did they not send it back?? It's only one pound and a few pence used from Amazon (how's that for flattery!), so I think I will definitely invest in a copy. I'm a sucker for this sort of book, I meticulously read every word in the hope of one day coming across as an industry expert :P Do I send it to your name c/o the publisher, or do you have an agent?

WHAT?! It's not in the Emerald Guides series, or New Perspectives? I found it using the ISBN that was on the missing library book... granted, that was in the name of 'Andyl Hughes'... they're not the brightest bunch around here...

Oh I'm put out. I've got a book on it's way by Cheryl Grant. Damme. XD
