I am thinking of going abroad to have implants any advice please.

While there are some very positive stories about cosmetic surgery carried out abroad, there are some very scary ones too.

Ok it's cheaper to go abroad for surgery and you get a holiday thrown in too, but you have to consider if complications arise back on home ground, most hospitals will be loathed to rectify problems and you will probably have to pay another surgeon make good any problems.

I personally think it's better to pay a bit more in the UK and select a surgeon from recommendation. If things do go wrong, then the surgeon will be on hand to sort things out. There are probably many people on here who've had surgery and can recommend a good surgeon. Mine was very good, although I didn't have implants.

I could go into a long ranty answer to your question, but I'll keep it simple:
Do NOT go abroad for ANY surgical/medical procedure

Usually, I am 100% in agreement with MrXLA but on this occassion I feel that Ineed to modify his answer. When medical students start their training they are "led to believe" or indeed "brainwashed" that their training would prepare them to provide the highest of health care in the world and it is only after meeting specialists from other parts of the world do you realise that this is pure arrogance. Indeed in many cases you soon realise that your training may not be as good as those doctors from other parts of the world. Countries that immediately spring to mind are, U.S.A, Germany. Holland, Spain, Singapore, France and ideed many other countries.

The bottom line is, as in the UK, pick your specialist, pick your unit (hospital) ask your GP for advice and even this may not guarantee, complication free surgery.
I feel that MrXLA feels that if there are complications from overseas surgery, the UK may have to pick up the bits.
In 1953, the then Prime Minister Anthony Eden had a gall bladder operation at a famous London Teaching Hospital, it went badly wrong and he had to got to the USA to have it put right, so you see it works both ways.

can i just say i was talking about dental implants sorry i should have made that clear.Thank you all for your opinions i am no nearer to making a decision.
