Upside down hard-drive.

I've just put my old hard drive into my new-ish computer for extra storage. However the only way the power supply can reach the socket on the drive is if I position the drive flat, but upside down in the spare tray. i.e power supply socket on the left as you look at the back of the drive.

Are drives designed to be fitted any way round, or am I going to damage it if it is not the right way up in my computer?

u can damage it. it is designed to be placed in one place and it cannot functon in another. BE WARNED! If you think it might work contact a specialist. it is not the best idea to get your information from here as it is not 100% reliable. From Matt

As long as the unit is secured it should work fine. I've had upside down drives in computers before. The effects of gravity in such a contained tight unit aren't going to affect it.

As for MTIH's piece of advice regarding 100% reliability... yes, too true. But a specialist won't be 100% either. The same goes for life, lol ;o)
