Have you tried Swarfega? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swarfega
Swarfega is def the way forward - I used to date a mechanic, and it was the only thing that would get rid of a days oil and grease !
Hand wash your winter woolies and your nails will be white and smell gorgeous.......
You can also use the product usually associated with lubrication... WD40. Spray it on, work it in as soap, then wash with usual hand soap... slick as a whistle,,,

Swarfega is very good, and would be my weapon of choice, but this is equally effective ...

Pour some neat Fairy Liquid (NOT a cheapo brand, though) onto your hands and add a spoonful of sugar (easier to find than sawdust). You can add some butter if you wish. Add a little warm water too Swarfega doesnt like water but FL doesnt mind. Work it in and rinse off.
Sounds better ww - if only that it smells nicer than Swarfega.
I love the smell of Swarfega ... it reminds me of cream cakes!

I worked at a garage once and we had cream cakes every afternoon (after washing our hands).
Good grief! My father used to use Swarfega to get oil off his hands, and the smell revolted me. It's put me off my strawberry oyster cakes now! Lol.
Swarfega, eh ??? nah try Cif.... Kitchen cleaner... much much much better than swarfega
