Just read that she has died. Loved her in the Golden Girls! I didn't realise she had dementia and had been suffering for years apparantly.
She was 84 years old.

Rest in peace Estelle.

She was Bea Arthur's mum in Golden Girls but she was in fact a year younger than Bea.

Yeah lol Says in that link that she got turned down twice for the part of Bea's Mum cos she ddn't look old enough! Must have been some good make up lol It's a bit like Gail and Audrey on Corrie. I think Audrey's only a couple of years older than Gail in real life yet she plays her Mum!

They were a good act tho (Estelle & Bea), always found her quite endearing and enjoyed watching her in the film "Stop or my mom will shoot" with Sly Stallone. Sad loss but at least she is at peace.

Yes it is a great shame, she was a very funny actress. She had a good innings though.

loved the golden girls myself cos they were on tv at the time i lost my mother and they sure made me laugh

i still watch them on sky tv and now it is sometimes subtitled which i enjoy as i am partially deaf. bless you estelle
