5 weeks ago I took on a short assured tenancy in an older property, it had been unoccupied and unheated for 6 months and it is proving impossible to keep warm (no central heating) the windows had all been painted shut and I asked for operational windows so the landlord allowed 1 in each room to open.
In just 5 weeks my belongings in the bathroom have grown heavy mould, severe I think for a period of just 5 weeks, see pic http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee122/WeeYo da/P7220188.jpg
I have also found white furry mould in a corner of the bedroom and removed it.
I need to get out of this place before my health suffers - what rights would I have if I moved out before the agreed 6 months agreement as I cannot risk all my clothing and furniture growing mould (or my lungs for that matter).

OMG Weeal, that is terrible.I don't know about what your rights are but you need to bring this to the attention of some authority.

Hi Tigger, Im gutted, it cost me loads to move here and now I will have to move again, im knackered lol

Ive contacted a solicitor as the Letting Agent (a prominent Perth legal company) havent replied to my calls or letters. I have had to buy THERMALS to sit in at night and I kid you not. It is July, I dread to think what this place will be like come the winter and Im tied to the tenancy till 10th December.

Ridiculous isnt it.
Try calling the number on that website hun. The may be able to point you in the right direction. If the Letting Agent has not replied to your calls and letters then you should complain to the governing body of Letting Agents. I don't know if one exists but ther should be one anyway! Lol

I'm off work today, next week and a few days the week after. I return to work on 6th Aug. Just needed a bit of a break.

Hi Skyep, so you are Rossetta! Lol
Yep! I'm trying so hard to change my name yet again as it's very like Rosetta one s! Long story, every time I try, it's either username in use or this email address is already in use? Sorry Al, petty problem compared to yours! xxx
I take it you're in the dungeon then Skyep. Joggerjayne is in there at the moment as well. I'll try and send you some supplies ;-) xxx
No, not in the dungeon. That's what I mean, sent an email to the ed to delete this username, reply was o.k, no probs. Yet I'm still being allowed to sign in ! Sorry Al ( I'd help you if I lived near you Mrs! & feed you on stew ;0) xxx
Actually Al, you need a big strong 'builders' arm around you! ;0)) xxx

Hi, just got off the phone. A lovely fella from Shelter gave me all the info I need, I will get an environmental report done on the property by the local council which will give me backup, and he said I can rescind (sp) on the agreement and hand in my keys with no obligation. Will find out more via solicitor tho cos I really dont wanna get into trouble here. I dont even have a credit card never mind a rent debt!

Will catch u by email soon rossetta lol
Hey Tiggs enjoy your time off, its good getting a wee break eh
what are you waiting for, then?! if you don't have a debt trail you will be much harder to find - move out, don't tell them and leave a note in the property saying that you tried to talk to them and they weren't interested. leave the front door open as well and let the local chavs nick all the furniture/fittings. that'll serve the robbin', swindlin' b@astards right!

letting agents are a pain and i've been swindled by so many over the years. all they are interested in (usually) is taking your money and giving jack in return. weeal, it would be nice to hear a 'little guy' wins scenario. seriously, though - you don't owe them anything, have tried to do the decent thing and they probably wouldn't pursue you anyway. life is too short - spend your hard earned pennies on a decent home. good luck x
Hey weeal -just caught this -we have a problem in that the upstairs flat is flooding my daughters bathroom -ceiling due to come down..We cant get hold of the landlord. The insurance wont pay until its sourced -been at my wits end all week -UNTIL I spoke with and met a lovely woman from P & K DC Environmental Health -she is now dealing with all aspects of it and is even dealing direct with my insurers -they have the remit to carry out emergency repairs and also blacklist bad Landlords who are registered with them.

Good Luck -and if you have already contacted them you will get a result.Pity about al the upheaval again tho -but your health comes first.
