entry to usa with police record
My son-in-law wants to go to Las Vegas next month, but is worried about a caution he got for fighting 9 years ago. does he need a visa, as he hasnt got time to aquire one,?

The police caution of 9 years ago is irrelevant. As from 12th January 2009 the Visa Waiver Application will need to be completed before you check-in at the UK airport of your departure, but for the time being such Application is made on board the aircraft.
if you read all the other hundreds of questions that are the same you will see that a visa isn't necessary. US Immigration have no access to UK criminal records it is all just a money making scam. Unless your son in law had been convicted of bomb making or drug traffiking then the US will have no idea.
