I have just got a kitten who is 12 weeks old. I would like to go away for 5 days on August 16th and would need to put him in a cattery. Do you think this is too young to go in a cattery? He would be 16 weeks old and would have had his vaccinations.
This may sound really harsh, but why get a young animal of any kind if you intend going on holiday shortly afterwards? it is just getting used to it's new surroundings and you will totally confuse it if you put in a cattery, sorry, I personally wouldn't go on holiday and leave it until it was at least a year old.
I have to agree with the above, why book a holiday when you have commited to an animal. What about getting a relative in to house sit,as to not unsettle the little one.
The kitten will be fine in the cattery, safer than leaving it at home with someone coming in to feed it. At least it will be secure, have company and plenty of things to play with if you take some toys.
You have to admit, it was a bit silly getting a kitten when you were planning to go away. However, that is in the past and can not be altered.
If you can get someone to housesit properly, that would be the best option but please don't leave it alone with someone coming to feed it daily.
If not, a cattery is just fine but again, make sure it is a reputable one, even if you have to travel a bit further or pay a few more pence. They have experience and will know how to treat your kitten.
Thank you for the advice. I wasn't planning to go away but an opportunity came up and I just wanted to know my options. I agree though, he does feel way too young and needs so much constant attention and reassurance, I feel it would be cruel.
Thanks.
